Mental representations in language processing

内容摘要:In this talk, I will discuss mental representations of syntax that underlie our comprehension and production of sentences. I will then give an overview of structural priming, a paradigm that has been extensively employed to explore lexical and syntactic representations over the past three decades. On the basis of this, I will talk about studies that I have done on the mental representation of verb-phrase ellipsis and missing arguments in Chinese, and also on bilingual lexico-syntactic organizations. Finally, I will talk about semantic representation, an area that remains to be explored, and discuss how Chinese can be used to contribute to the study of language processing.
